Come see Mean Girls presented on stunning 35mm film on the big screen in L3!

When it comes to cultural cornerstones, you'd be hard-pressed to name another high school movie from this century with the same star-powered significance as 2004’s Mean Girls. Helmed by Tina Fey as writer-slash-math-teacher, the movie bases itself off a self-help book designed for parents of teenage girls wanting to navigate the “Power Plays and Politics” in what has been dubbed the ‘girl world’ of teen society. Power and politics are ideas that are certainly taken seriously in the suburban jungle Cady Heron, public school newcomer, finds herself thrust into at North Shore High, governed by the unshakeable hierarchy of cliques. As if Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams weren’t enough to lead the film's truly fantastic cast, this also marks Amanda Seyfried’s feature film debut rounding out a movie full of unforgettable performances. In an attempt to fit in, Cady finds herself pushed to befriend reigning Queen Bee Regina George, boss of the self-titled ‘Plastics’ and rivalling Macbeth’s witches when it comes to terrible trios, in order to fulfil a long-held grudge against Regina by her ex-best friend. While the movie certainly amps up the idea of high school to a caricaturist parody, it finds within itself moments of heart and resonance that has ensured the film’s status as a classic, to not much surprise when the familiarity of adolescence as a battlefield of relationship politics is timeless. The fashion and slang throughout the movie have become staples of Y2K aficionados, and still over 20 years later, the jokes are just as hilarious and the lost art of a four-way call trap is just as devastatingly dramatic.
