Acting as a film adaptation of the 1981 broadway hit of the same name, Dreamgirls follows the rise of a black R&B girl group called 'The Dreams' and their journey through the cutthroat music industry during the end of the civil rights movement. The movie is truly a love letter to the rise of R&B and the African American musical stars of the 60s-70s, with a fabulous soundtrack guaranteed to get everyone in the audience dancing. Featuring an all-star cast including Beyonce, Jamie Foxx and Keith Robinson, both the dramatic and musical performances enhance the compelling, character-led narrative. The academy-award winning renditions of Jennifer Hudson as Effie and Eddie Murphy as Jimmy are particularly notable, with earnestly emotional performances that draw you right into the movie.
