Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby is a visually spectacular and thematically rich film that explores love, wealth, ambition, and the destructive nature of the American Dream. The film’s greatest strength is its visual style. Luhrmann uses lavish costumes, extravagant sets, and vibrant colours to capture the excitement and excess of the Jazz Age. However, beneath the glamour lies a darker message, one that is deeply rooted in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s original novel. The characters’ obsession with money and status reveals how wealth can create loneliness rather than happiness.
