As a member of the Warwick University Gliding Club you will progress through the nationally recognized training route, delivered by highly experienced and enthusiastic instructors registered with the British Gliding Association on your way to becoming a qualified solo glider pilot. Instruction is given completely free of charge! We also participate in camps and competitions throughout the year to give you plenty of chances to test your new skills.
Trips run most weekends but they are only confirmed a couple of days in advance due to the weather. Once membership is paid, you are responsible for your trip costs:
So for a typical day’s gliding of travel plus 3 winch launched flights at 7 minutes each, that comes to £2 + 3*(£5.50 + 7*(£0.25)) = £23.75, around the same price as a night out clubbing! Insurance is covered by the club/SU memberships.
We usually meet in a campus car park at 07:30, but both the place and time are up to the discretion of the trip leader (and will be made clear to the group). If you are running late, call or message your trip leader immediately. We drive to and fly at Darlton Gliding Club – if you wish to drive yourself please let us know beforehand – returning back to campus at 6-8pm. Essentials to bring are money (cash or cheque only), food and drink, warm clothing (including hats and scarves) and sunglasses (no matter the weather!!)
This is an On Campus club. You’ll need a Warwick Sport Club Pass as well as a Sports Federation membership.
This is an Off Campus club. You’ll need a Warwick Sport Club Pass as well as a Sports Federation membership. Find out more about joining clubs here.
