India has a rich tradition of classical dance and fine arts which Warwick ICD aims to give prominence to within the perfroming arts scene at Warwick University. Although many are familiar with Western Classical dance forms, Indian world-famous dance forms including Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam and Odissi have thousands of years of history. These dance styles use the same 'mudras' (signs of hand) to signify expressions and often recount the stories surrounding various Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
Indian Classical Dance Society welcomes everyone with open arms, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced level dancer there is a place for you in our society! We would like to encourage annyone with a passion for dance and who wants to try something new to join us in this coming year.
The society members are some of the nicest people you will meet on campus and we are very much a big family! We have several socials throughout the year from dinner on campus to nights out.
Most importantly as a member of the society you will have the opportunity to perform in a variety of shows throughout the year. Through last year we had dancers at performances at One World Week, Pizazz and even at Thaala a university-wide ICD competition!
• DharmaFest in collaboration
• Fashion Show at One World Week
• World Party at One World Week
• Pizzaz – Warwick Tap Dance Show
Not only is ICD a good platform for dancing but also to meet people with diverse backgrounds from all over the world
We have several socials throughout the year for both drinkers and non-drinkers where we take a break from dance and get to know each other over a drink at circling or a delicious meal at a nice restaurant.
ICD is an amazing society and caters for everyone, so go ahead and click that ‘add to basket ‘ button and we promise not to disappoint .
We are looking for members that are both beginners and experienced dancers. Bring your friends along too!
