Hi and welcome to Mafia Society at Warwick!

What is mafia?

MAFIA (also known as Werewolf, Assassin or Witch Hunt) is an intellectual and psychological party game modelling a battle between an informed minority and an uninformed majority. At the start of the game each player is secretly assigned a role either of “mafia”, who know each other; or “citizens”, who know only the number of mafia among them. During the “night” phase the mafia covertly ‘murder’ a citizen. During the day phase, all of the surviving players debate the identities of the mafia and vote to eliminate a suspect. The game continues until all of the mafia have been eliminated, or until the mafia outnumber the citizens.

We organise regular sessions and socials so make sure not to miss out!

How to play (basic)

Everyone is randomly assigned a role of town or mafia. The mafia know the other mafia, the town do not know who else is town but have significantly more players.

The game alternates between day and night phases. During the night mafia can kill someone. During the day phase, after having a chance to discuss, all players vote on who they want to lynch (remove from the game).

The game ends when either all mafia have been killed, or over half of the surviving players are mafia.
