Welcome to Mixed Hockey! We are a friendly hockey club that caters to players of all abilities and backgrounds, from total beginners to experienced, competitive players. Having no initiations and only optional team trials, we are one of the most inclusive sports teams on campus! We supply all the equipment you may need, just bring some workout clothes and a good attitude!
What we offer:
Training:
- Three times a week at the Westwood Waterbased Pitch
- TUESDAY 17:30 - 19:30
- FRIDAY 16:00 - 18:00
- SUNDAY 14:00 - 17:00
- Rock up and play sessions open to all
- We have an external coach that trains us on a Friday.
- Caters to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of play. Some members started playing for the first time at university, others come from experienced club or school hockey backgrounds having played for 10+ years.
- Taster sessions for Club and University freshers for the first two weeks of every term.
Matches:
- Universities Mixed Hockey Sunday League:
We compete against lots of local universities (including Keele, Derby, Nottingham Trent, Nottingham SB and Leicester) every Sunday in our University Mixed Hockey League. These games range in difficulty, but are a good challenge for intermediate and advanced players.
- Leicestershire Mixed Hockey Association Saturday League:
This is our first year joining this league, adding lots more matched to our schedule. We play in the highest division with matches ranging in difficulty similarly to our Sunday League.
We have great links with lots of other teams not involved in our usual league (Reading, Oxford Brookes, Berkswell and Balsall Common, Birmingham City University etc.) as well as with the Men's and Women's clubs which allows us to host and travel away to lots of exciting friendly matches.Many of these are ideal for our newer players looking to gain match experience and gain confidence with the support of our advanced players on the sidelines. As always, some of these are tougher matches and are ideal for testing our most competitive players.
- England Hockey Mixed Championship
For many years we have been competing within the EH Championship, a nationwide Mixed Hockey knock-out tournament. To be apart of this squad, we have introduced *optional* trials for our members to become a part of the team that faces these matches as these are often the toughest games in our calendar. This squad has additional training or fitness after our friday sessions from 18.00-19.00.
Socials:
- We host formal socials every week for everyone in the club to enjoy, there is no pressure to drink, we have club members who are completely sober and others who aren't but socials are for everyone to enjoy!
- We have no initiations

- Circle and POP! (Usually 7-8 Wednesday POPs per term, as well as both Skool Dayz)
- Zombie Apocalypse / Cops and Robbers / 4-legged Bar Crawls

- Our members are all great friends so even on days without a formal social, you can often find a group out and about doing something, or just meeting at the pub after training - there's always something to do!
Tournaments and Events:
Every year in Term 2, we invite other universities to Warwick for a jam packed weekend of fun. We host a bar crawl and club night on the Saturday, followed by a hockey tournament on the Sunday. Some of the universities invited include Oxford Brookes University, Keele University, and University of Nottingham Sutton Bonington.
During the summer holidays, we also take part in the Riverside festival. This consists of a packed weekend playing Hockey, camping, and partying to the late hours. On the Saturday night, everyone dresses up in a theme-related costume. It’s one of the best events and is a great way to the academic year!
In term 3, we host an interclub mini league. The teams are formed by year groups, which you compete in challenges each week to win goals for the match at the end of the week. It allows for some competitive hockey along with some great fun with your friends. The previous winner were the Freshers, winning medals and a trophy with their year group carved in!
The most anticipated events of the whole academic year are Charity and Sports Ball. Charity ball is organised by Sophie, and consists of dressing up in your finest suits and dresses for a night of celebration along with a three course meal! Sports ball is similar, but every sport society attends the same event!
Tour:
- Domestic Tour
- One of the favourite events in Mixed is Dom tour! At the beginning of Term 2, we will travel to a mystery location in the UK for 3 days. This trip includes: Accomodation for the trip, Tour t-shirt, Tour circle, Afternoon activities, Bar Crawl and Clubbing
- Example locations: Leeds, Bristol, Nottingham
- Approximate cost: £110-140
- International Tour
- Our international tour takes place at the end of the year in term 3, which lasts typically betwen 5-7 days! This trip includes: Accomodation for the trip, Tour t-shirt, Beach days, Activities, Tour Meal, Bar crawl and Clubbing
- In the past, our international tour destinations have alternated from beach destinations and cities.
- Example previous locations include Valencia, Genoa, Athens, Albufeira
- Approximate cost: £300-£400
Costs to Join:
We aim to keep barriers to participation in sport low in Mixed Hockey, so to join our club, you'll only need to pay the standard SU Sports fees (Sports Federation Membership and On Campus Club Pass) and our club joining fee (£6).
