Warwick Labour

Warwick Labour

Welcome to the University of Warwick Labour Society! As a society we’re committed to the aims and values of the labour movement, seeking out every avenue to advance liberation, equality, and social justice.

We’re one of the most active university political societies in the country, holding regular events, talks, and socials. We also campaign heavily both on campus and throughout Warwickshire, Leamington, Coventry — and further afield too. Last year we had over 240 members. We’re very friendly and love welcoming new members! So join below for FREE, visit our website warwicklabour.org and be sure to follow us on Instagram for all the latest events, insights and to see how to get involved.

Campaigns

We make a difference on campus through a mix of internal campaigns and collaborations with other societies, raising money and awareness of important issues. Most recently we have raised £226 for Mermaids through our open mic night which saw left creatives gather and share songs and poetry. We have also previously ran a register to vote campaign to mobilise students on campus to engage in politics.

Aside from internal campaigns, we also engage in the local area through running regular campaigning sessions in Coventry and Leamington.  During election periods, we run more intense campaigning schedules and collaborate with experienced campaigners. Don't worry if you have never campaigned before, everyone is super welcoming and it is enjoyable experience. We usually campaign and then go for a small social afterwards to unwind.

Socials

To unwind we have a huge range of social (both drinking and non drinking) that run regularly. They include from bar crawls, circles, film nights and activities such as lasertag and bowling! Check out our Instagram for the latest info.

Political Discussions

We run a weekly political discussion event, "Labour Chats..." and welcome a diverse range of opinions on issues! Additionally, we host high-profile speakers from Parliament and the wider political sphere to bring you insight from politicians, campaigners and thinkers. We also often collaborate with other societies on campus to hold debates on various current affairs, on topics such as Education and the Economy.

Speakers

We are excited to invite a variety of speakers to campus ranging from MPs to Comedians, Authors and Poets on the left. Recent speakers have included Zarah Sultana, Ian Lavery, Andy Burnham and Bell Riberio Addy amonst many others.

Liberation

Liberation is fundamental to the politics of our society. The politics of anti-racism, feminism, LGBTQ+ liberation and the liberation of disabled people are inextricable from class politics. We have five active liberation caucuses which hold their own events and seek to work with the liberation societies on campus as closely as possible! These include LGBT+, Trans, BAME, Disabilities and Mental Health (DMH) and a Women's caucuses.

L.E.F.T magazine

We have our own blog and magazine where we encourage members and left-wing students on campus to write about issues that matter to them and also write about current affairs. These are available on our website and pitches are released regularly.

Sports Team

We have also recently set up a 5 a side football team, who play in weekly matches against other societies. It gives members a chance to relax and also partake in affordable sport with their friends. If you are interested, get in touch with our Sports Officer, Luke!

Ball

At the end of each academic year we host a ball for our members, alumni and friends to celebrate our achievements throughout the year and finishing exams. This year, the ball is at the Riverside Glasshouse!

Tour

Last year we went to Cambridge University for 3 days, exploring a new city, meeting new people and trying out their flagship pints and policy event. We aim to keep tour as cheap and accessible as possible for all.
