We offer a large and vibrant social scene, built around a legendary activity: Salsa dancing! Being the ultimate way to meet people, Warwick Salsa is an inclusive society that welcomes people from all across the University community. What makes us unique from other societies is that the activity we promote is itself an inherently social one. While we offer the opportunity to learn and perform, our main aim is to provide a friendly environment in which to meet new people and have fun on the dancefloor! And we do this whilst trying to instil smooth dancing and instinctive musicality... all within the inviting arms of our salsa family.
During term time, we offer salsa lessons twice a week for all levels!
Copper Rooms 1 from 8pm-10pm: Salsa classes for ALL LEVELS followed by Salsa Freestyle! Don't forget to join us afterwards in the Snug in Copper Rooms 2 for our special SALSA MONDAYS night - with more opportunities to dance and socialise!
Flexigrid from 5pm-7pm: Salsa classes for BEGINNERS, IMPROVERS 1 and RUEDA (for Improvers 2 and Intermediates)
Our levels are:
Beginner: No Salsa experience at all
Improvers 1: Have taken around 3 beginners classes
Improvers 2: Have taken at least 10 improvers 1 classes. You should feel intuitively comfortable with crossbody and crossbody turn techniques
Intermediate/Advanced: Have over a year's salsa experience
If you are not certain which level is for you then please ask one of the Exec members!
Prices: £2 members, £3 non-members per class
Some quick FAQs about classes
What do I wear?
Whatever you want! No special shoes needed but if you have Latin/dance shoes that’s cool. For higher levels avoid rubber-soled shoes.
Do I need to bring a partner?
No! We usually get about equal numbers, and we change partners regularly throughout the class - so you get to meet loads of new people!
But I have no experience, can I still join?
Don't worry - everyone's here to learn! We do a warm-up at the beginning of the class (a sort of 'follow the leader'), but don't worry or feel silly if you can't do it - it's just intended as a bit of fun and you'll find that each week you can do more and more of the steps!

Twice per term, we host a Latin Night in the Copper Rooms. Starting at 8 pm, we run through to 1 am to maximise on the freestyle! See more photos of previous Latin Nights on our Facebook page here.
Hosted on campus, and attracting guests from all over the Midlands, we have a renowned guest teacher, DJ, bar and classes for all levels of Salsa. There is also a workshop for another Latin dance such as Reggaeton, La Rueda, Bachata or Cha Cha Cha!
These nights are a term highlight - if you haven't been yet, then make sure to note them down in your diary!
Warwick Salsa has an active social calendar, with a lot of different events aimed at both socialising and dancing. The main aim of all of the socials is to create a welcoming atmosphere where all members can have fun together! We host events such as freestyle dancing, society meals, circling and organise trips to local salsa parties. One of the best trips we run is to the biggest annual Salsa Party in the Midlands, BIRMINGHAM BALL hosted by Birmingham University's Dance Club Latino! It is a great and unmissable social occasion, with a day of workshops and a night full of freestyle. The socials are a great way to get involved in the society - no matter how much dance experience you have!
Have a look at the photos on our Facebook page to get a feel for the socials we host!
Once a year we go on our annual tour, usually at the start of the break following term 2. Previous tours have gone to Croatia, Paris, Cyprus and Monaco.
Warwick Salsa Society is renowned for excellent performances throughout the year! We have performance groups for ALL LEVELS, so no matter how much Salsa you have done, you can get involved!
Previous years we have performed at University Open Days, Warwick Tap's annual 'Pizazz' dance show, other societies' events, and as one of the evening performances at the International Salsa Congress in Cyprus. Each year we also compete at the Birmingham Ball (where we have a four-year winning streak!).
Have a look at our YouTube page for videos of past performances!
Warwick Salsa strives to have a strong charity focus and be further involved with many charitable projects throughout the year. As one of the larger societies on campus, we have the potential to do a lot of good by supporting a charity! We want our members to be as involved as possible in our fundraising efforts which is why every year Warwick Salsa’s charity is picked by you: the members!
In previous years, Warwick Salsa has supported Coventry Haven (https://www.coventryhaven.co.uk/), Warwick Marrow (https://www.warwicksu.com/societies/22346/) and Macmillan Cancer Support (https://www.macmillan.org.uk/) through charity latin nights, charity socials and a 24-hour salsathon!
Here is your Exec Committee for 2019-2020. We run the Society, and would love to get to know you! If you have any questions, issues or thoughts just come and talk to us.
