What We do
We are an inclusive society dedicated to facilitating and encouraging the discovery of real ale and cider. If you are a seasoned drinking veteran or just seek a casual environment to relax, WURAS caters to both.
With regular trips to surrounding public houses and breweries, we’ll give members the opportunity to experience the West Midlands like they’ve never seen it before (whether you remember it or not). However, our pièce de resistance in our social calendar is our Real Ale Festival.
The Real Ale Festival
The Warwick Uni Real Ale Festival is the biggest student run ale festival in the country. Last year we had over 120 beers from around the world! If that is not enough, we stock over 50 ciders and fruit wines that you would probably have never tried before (and probably never try again!).
There’s music: we’re talking the Victorian Pub Pianist Dr Busker; we’re talking Warwick’s big band and we’re talking whoever’s Spotify playlist happens to be on at the time. If God’s favourite elixir is making you feel hungry then don’t worry as food will be available from Lazy Pig catering which includes a hog roast, pork rolls and vegetarian sausages.
A selection of soft drinks, non-alcoholic and vegan beers will also be available. So be sure to make your way down to the Copper Rooms on week 6 of term 2 where the beer and ale will be flowing like milk and honey.
Whether you’ve never tried beer before, or you don’t drink anything unless it's brewed independently by a group of monks using nearly extinct hops: WURAS will be the perfect fit for you. We typically run a social every week on Thursday that begins at the Dirty Duck on campus and can take us to near as Kenilworth or as far as Birmingham.
At the core of the society we are just folks who `don’t care what they say’ who enjoy a drink with good company to provide relief from the stresses of uni life. So what are you waiting for? Come along for good beer, good company and a great atmosphere.
