As a society we are dedicated to the promotion and drinking of great beer, whether you call it Real Ale or Craft Beer. Aficionados of "real" cider will also find a place here. We have regular socials, where we try to visit a number of pubs and breweries serving a variety of quality beers. On our social calendar, you will also find beer festivals around the country and occasionally brewery tours. Our main event is the Real Ale Festival, in the second half of Term 2, which usually attracts around 2,000 visitors over three days. This is by far the largest student-run beer festival in the country (around 120 each year), and is always one to mark on the calendar! Come along and get involved!
41st Real Ale Festival:
The greatest event to grace the Copper Rooms returns for its 41st year and promises to be bigger, better and with more beer than ever before. So mark Thursday 13th February to Saturday 15th February (Week 6) in your diaries. That's right, it's the Warwick University Real Ale Festival, hosted in both Copper Rooms 1 AND 2!
Boasting over 120 British beers from the Orkneys to the South Coast and all places in between, it's more than enough to keep any man, woman or child with a fake ID entertained. So consider our selection of over 50 ciders, fruit wines and world beers an added bonus. Add onto that entertainment in the form of the outrageous Victorian Pub Pianist Dr Busker, plus sets from the University of Warwick Big Band and Joaquim Cabral & The Soulsquad! Whilst Dr Busker and Big Band have been festival favourites for years, Joaquim is a former contestant on The Voice Portugal and will be back for the second time to bring his fusion of jazz and soul-influenced rock!
Be sure to check out our collaboration/keg selection in Rouge Bar to try our LIMITED EDITION BEERS we've brewed with some of our favourite local breweries! CIDER, WINE and MEAD will be upstairs in COPPER ROOMS 2 with an expanded bar so you cider lovers out there can get at as much of the stuff as you can handle!
Food will once again be provided by Lazy Pig, who will be serving up hog roasts, pork rolls and vegetarian sausages. And for all you teetotalers and designated drivers, we haven't forgotten about you. We've got a fully stocked Soft Drinks Bar plus non-alcoholic beers.
As usual, a portion of the profits will be donated to charity. This year we will be supporting the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC). This institution runs three air ambulances in the Midlands, 100% funded by donations. Since 1991, the MAAC has responded to more than 54,000 missions, averaging 2,000 per year.
So come along for good beer, good company and what's sure to be the highlight of the SU calendar!
