Welcome to Warwick Comedy!

Warwick Comedy Society offers the opportunity to write, perform and direct comedy -  from sketch to stand-up - putting on shows throughout the year and then taking them to the Edinburgh Fringe, Leicester Comedy Festival and elsewhere. But there's no pressure to perform - all of our sessions are welcoming and laid back. We also have plenty of trips just to watch comedy as well as many socials to attend. We welcome all new members, from freshers to PhD students, regardless of previous comedic experience!

Every Friday from 6-8pm in H0.66. We hold workshops to write and perform sketches, and play improv games. There's opportunities to perform in, or direct, our end of term shows, in addition to taking shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, Leicester Comedy Festival and the Scottish Student Comedy Festival.

2022 Sketch Show - Good Eggs

Our stand-up workshops are Wednesdays at 6-7.30pm in H0.66 (room subject to change) where we test out new material and play writing games. Every term we put on several stand-up shows for students to watch or perform, in The Graduate on campus, or Temperance in Leamington. We take our shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and we seek out opportunities for acts to perform on the open mic circuit as well as any other gigs.

We host an annual gig through the SU during freshers week - featuring a range of professional comedians as well as some of our stronger student acts. The society produced 2 Chortle Student Comedy Finalists in 2022: Henry Shannon and Charlie Humphrey. We compete in this competition every year and reguarly produce semi-finalists and finalists. Furthermore, recent Warwick Comedy Alumni have gone on to become successful comedians. For example, Eric Rushton has just completed his first full length Edinburgh Festival run, while Adele Cliff has been earning prestige in Edinburgh for a number of years.

As well as performing comedy, we also watch comedy. There are loads of great comedians who perform every term right on our door step at the Warwick Arts Centre, and we get discounted group deals. Then there's the trips further afield to watch comedy in Birmingham, Leicester, London and beyond! We watch stand-up specials and sitcoms on Netflix.

Every August we head to the Edinburgh Fringe, performing our sketch and stand-up shows for 2 weeks. It is an amazing opportunity to perform at the greatest arts festival in the world, and to see some fantastic shows!

On the social front, we organise many socials throughout each term, examples of which are pub crawls, bowling, watching comedy specials and much more. Additioanlly every week on Wednsesday's we run a informal coffee catch up at Curiositea on campus from 4 until the start of our stand up sessions.

Comedy doing sports? Yeah that is the same question we ask ourselves every week when we lose 10-0 in the society football league. However, we do run a football team open to anybody interested in taking part, regardless of experience and it is always a good way to stay fit and relieve some of that uni stress.
