The Warwick Buddhist Society exists for anyone interested in Buddhism or Buddhist meditation, regardless of his/her faith or philosophy (or the lack thereof). We are not affiliated with any particular school or tradition. Instead, we are a community members of which are joined together by their interest in trying out or living by some or all of the Buddha's teachings.
All of our events are open to everyone: there is no need for any prior experience with meditation or Buddhist teachings, and you don't have to be a society member (although membership is free).
What do we do?
We get together in the evening once a week to practise meditation and listen to talks about the dhamma (the Buddha's views, guidance and advice), led by one of two Theravadin monks. These gatherings usually are an hour long, at times drawn out a bit by the discussion we engage in with the monks.
Besides these regular sessions we meet up for socials at the beginning and end of each term to celebrate and enjoy the company of our fellow meditators in an (even more) chilled out setting.
Also, we organise trips to The Forest Hermitage, home to the above mentioned monks (located in the woods a short car ride and walk away from campus) when Buddhist holidays or celebrations are taking place there. These usually involve a daytrip, an offering ceremony, meditation and listening to dhamma in a scenic setting, often followed by a smorgasbord of delicious food.
How to get involved?
If you are looking for a place to practice meditation, or feel inclined to join a local community of people of all sorts of religious and humanist beliefs who are all interested in achieving a higher state of mental and physical well-being through introspection, self-awareness and compassion, then please feel free to come and join us at one of our regular meditation sessions. By joining our Facebook group, you can find the most up-to-date information regarding sessions, socials, trips and more.
