Warwick Women in Economics Society

Warwick Women in Economics Society

Founded in 2020, Warwick Women in Economics Society (WWiE) is the UK’s first society dedicated to supporting female students at university and further down the economics career pipeline. As an intersectional society we advocate to increase diversity in all dimensions and welcome students of all degrees and genders to join us!

What we do:

  • Exclusive Mentorship Programme - matching our female members who have expressed a desire to pursue further study or a career as a professional economist with an experienced mentor from Warwick alumni.

  • Career Advice & Networking Opportunities - CV workshops, Assessment Centre clinics; master’s application advice; company meet & greets, career support groups and more.

  • Women Societies Alliance Affiliated - as an affiliated society our members have exclusive access to the mentorship programme and careers events hosted by the WSA.

  • Collaborative Events - follow our facebook and instagram to hear about events we host with other societies at Warwick - current collaborations include with the Economics Summit (WES); Economics Society; Rethink Economics and the 93% Club.

  • Role Model Series - throughout the year we invite distinguished female economists to discuss their experiences and share advice with our members.

  • Socials - get to know our exec committee and fellow members, and make friends for life!

It has been long acknowledged that the discipline of economics has an inclusivity problem and we are committed to addressing this. We champion the importance of intersectional networks and are a safe space for voices to be heard, discussing ideas and worries openly. As well as encouraging peer networks and conversation, we will also invite a diverse range of alumni to participate in our mentorship scheme and events.

We host regular and popular events from successful women in a wide range of fields, amplifying the voices of those who have been systematically excluded from the discipline. We share the work of diverse authors, thinkers, creators and academics, along with producing our own informative content. This creates excitement and direction for female students at Warwick, and we support these students throughout their journey, providing career support to help students achieve their full potential.

The core of our mission is to raise awareness of the importance of economics amongst underrepresented groups within the field. We aim to do this by challenging existing barriers to equality through our initiatives and events (only some of which are mentioned above) and, of course, by growing our community.
