We hold weekly (voluntary!) meetings where we discuss different mental health related issues and inform our members of our upcoming campaigns and events. These meetings are super informal so you can get involved as much or as little as you like!
The mental health topics we discuss typically include OCD, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders, and how to help a friend - but feel free to get in touch if there’s a particular topic you’d like to talk about!
Some of our previous campaigns and events include:
- Feel Good, Stress Less
- Suicide Prevention session run by Papyrus
- Men’s Mental Health campaign
- Social Anxiety campaign
- Misconceptions about unknown Mental Health Disorders
- And many more!
Mental Health Awareness Week
One of our most important and well known events is Mental Health Awareness Week, which we hold once a term. During the week we work with our own members and different societies to hold various events promoting physical and mental wellbeing, and to raise awareness for mental health in general.
We tend to have a range of activities going on each day throughout the week, so there’s something to suit everyone! (And again, all events all week are totally voluntary so you can help us plan or just come along to however many you like, it’s all about what works best for you!)
Mind Aware Volunteers
Not only do we campaign on campus, but we also try volunteer in the local area!
Mind Aware Volunteers previously have volunteered in local secondary schools running workshops on mental health and wellbeing for the pupils.
This year, we are hoping to eventually continue this, but to also take part in virtual volunteering!
This is, as always, completely voluntary and open to all of our members! There’s no time commitment - you can come along to as many or as few sessions as you like. All we ask is that you attend a one off training session first.
Warwick Volunteers help us to log your volunteer hours, so you can get a certificate at the end of each year. They also cover the cost of all transport for all members (so kind!). For more information, check out our official Mind Aware Volunteers page: https://warwick.ac.uk/about/community/volunteers/volunteering/mindawarevolunteers/
As well as campaigning and raising awareness, we’re also here to have a good time! Mind Aware hold various socials throughout the year, and they’re all different so there’s something for everyone!
In the past we’ve done Christmas dinner at Xananas, Bowling, Laser Quest, Ice Skating, Curry nights, Board Game socials, quiz nights and doggy de-stress days!
