Protest and Demonstration

Regardless of whether it’s staff or student-led, any protest or demonstration on campus is governed by a number of University documents to ensure that protests can take place safely and legally.

The University's principle documents that students should be aware of are as follows:

Regulation 29 exists to uphold freedom of speech on campus within the law: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/gov/calendar/section2/regulations/meetings/

The Dignity at Warwick policy ensures a working and learning environment in which all University members (staff and students) are treated fairly and with dignity and respect:

Campus Security also have a Code of Conduct which details the expected behaviours of their staff during a protest or demonstration: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/campus-security/about/codeofconduct/.

In addition, if there is any intention to march, the protest or demonstration organiser must also inform the police (https://www.gov.uk/protests-and-marches-letting-the-police-know). Please note that this applies even on University land where members of the public have right of way.

If you have any questions regarding protest or demonstration on campus, please contact the SU Democracy & Development Officer (ddo@warwicksu.com) in the first instance.
