Winners of Most Improved Sports Club 2016!
Last season saw the Devils back on top with amazing success from all our squads: we gained four national titles, three second places and one third place across our 8 squads!
We welcome all levels of skill and experience - most of us had never cheered before Uni so don't be afraid to join us in learning something new. It is a great way to keep fit, make amazing new friends, and represent the University! Aside from competitions and performances, we also have a very busy social calendar, with weekly socials and an international tour! We also get involved with multiple University-wide events, and regularly volunteer and raise money for charity.
This is our largest competitive squad comprised of around 20 members, and is one of our co-ed squads. We compete at Level 3. It combines elements of stunting, dance, tumbling and jumps. We train three times a week, and have the opportunity to train on a sprung floor on Thursday evenings in Coventry.
We have up to three small competitive stunt teams for the 2017/18 season. The levels of next years small stunts will be decided after try outs next term, depending on ability. If you are completely new to cheer, don't worry! Our Level 2 squads are perfect for those of you who have never tried the sport before. These squads are pure stunting, there are no jumps or dance elements involved and each is comprised of between four and five members. We have All Girl and Co-Ed squads, and typically train twice a week.
Our Jazz squad consistently produces some of the most beautiful contemporary jazz dance routines. As well as competing, they are always a key part of the annual dance show Pizazz which is hosted by Warwick Tap, and last year they performed at Warwick Blackout too! Jazz typically trains once or twice a week.
Last season, the Hip Hop squad placed an outstanding 2nd place at the BCA Nationals and gained a well deserved 1st place at Future Cheer as well as being the current Grand Dance National Champion title holders. They also performed at the university festival One World Week and at CMD's end-of-year showcase. Hip Hop typically trains once or twice a week.
Pom is our largest Dance squad. For the past two years our Pom squad has taken home 1st place in at least one University National competition! Last year, they placed 1st at Future Cheer and 2nd at BCA. Pom typically trains once or twice a week.
This year is our inaugural year of being a Gymnastics Club. Last year, we sent a few members to a couple of gymnastics competitions, where we secured a first and fourth place! So if you fancy yourself the next Max Whitlock or Simone Biles, come and try a taster session! All abilities are welcome, and training will be once or twice a week.
Fixtures is a weekly training session on Sundays, and is open to all members. It is a non-competitive squad, and regular attendance at Fixtures will help you build up your stunting skills. Essentially run as a 'Gameday Squad' performing at numerous events throughout the year including university matches, often found supporting the Warwick Wolves (the American Football club) on the sidelines as well as other events, which in the past have included One World Week, Varsity matches between Warwick and Coventry, and The X Factor! There may also be a dance fixtures squad this year, depending on numbers - stay tuned for more information!
We circle at Pop! almost every week, and host other socials including Kasbah club nights, sober socials and adoptions, where you will officially be inducted as a Devil! We also organise an international tour - in the last three years we have visited Prague,Alicante and Budapest! And if you just cannot get enough of the Devils Socials, this year, for the first time EVER, we will be going on a Domestic Tour!
We regularly get involved with the community, whether that be performing across campus or at community events in Leamington or Coventry. We have also volunteered at Youth PHAB, and hope to get involved with so many more opportunies this year.
Our chosen charity for the 2017/18 season is MIND, the mental health charity and Marie Curie Cancer Care. We have at least two charity events per year.
This is just a snapshot of all the things we do! If you'd like to find out more, visit us at the Sports Fair on 2nd October, or visit our Facebook page or our BRAND NEW website which is linked below!
We cannot wait to meet you!
