The Warwick Women’s Rugby Football Club (WWRFC) is one of the most inclusive and friendly clubs the University has to offer, catering for all women and non-binary students. Starting 2026-27 season we now have 2 BUCS teams! With one team in BUCS Midlands Tier 1 and another in BUCS Midlands Tier 3 as well as a variety of development opportunities such as the RFU's Inner Warrior Series which is catered to those who have never played before.
Rugby is as inclusive as it is fun and no matter your size, strength, or experience there is a place for everyone on the pitch. We have members 4’ 11 and 5’11 alike and have welcomed everyone from those who have never played a sport outside of compulsory PE lessons (yes you’re not too unfit to join!) to those that have been playing rugby for years. Over 45% of our members had never even touched a rugby ball before joining!
We train three times a week on the Cryfield 4G pitches, on Mondays from 19:00 - 20:30, Tuesdays 12:00-13:30 and on Fridays from 18:30 - 20:00. Our sessions are run by our dedicated external coaches Jane and Carla. We play competitively in the BUCS matches throughout terms 1 and 2, competing in weekly matches on Wednesday afternoons, with the chance of playing local clubs in friendlies, and competing in tournaments and festivals at weekends. We are partnered with the local Kenilworth Women’s club, providing extra opportunities to train, play and watch championship level rugby.
Being a member of WWRFC is as much about training as the social aspects however, and there is no pressure to compete in matches. We have plenty of members who simply prefer to just come to the socials! Our Social Secretary runs various socials throughout the year including Circles every other week (as always, drinking is completely optional), attending premiership matches, team meals, watch-alongs in pubs, and much more! Our socials are a fantastic opportunity to bond with other members of the club and have a ridiculously good time in the process. We also host regular volunteering and charity events throughout the year!
Hallmark events for WWRFC include our annual tour to a mystery location, our W.M.D Ball with women’s football and cricket clubs, and the SU Sports Ball, where we celebrate surviving another year of uni in style. Another highlight is the new event Friday Night Lights which joins both men's and women's rugby in a doubleheader match played in Nick Newbold (Formerly Butts Park) Stadium, gives player a chance to experience rugby on a level they may not have been able to before.
Rugby is so much more than the bonds formed on the pitch and our social life and friendly spirit is some of the best around (just ask anyone!).
We invite anyone interested in Women’s Rugby to come along to training or to one of our socials and give it a try - it is one of the surest ways to make friends for life. For more information, feel free to send us an email at uniofwarwickwomensrugby@gmail.com or email an exec member (see below). Alternatively, shoot us a dm on Instagram or Twitter. We look forward to seeing you!
