ITF - Mark Fitton
Mark , 4th Degree Black Belt, runs our ITF sessions on Monday and Thursday. He has over 30 years of experience in Taekwondo. Mark's Taekwondo career was predominantly governed by his time in the RAF where he regularly competed in numerous national and international competitions as part of the RAF and Armed Forces Taekwondo teams, gaining Service Colours at both levels. Mark is also the chief instructor at Balsall Common Taekwondo club. Mark’s particular interest in martial arts is understanding the technical nature of the art and applying this to his main passion of teaching self-defence.
WT - Chenson Hope-Simes and Nathan Jossa
Nathan, 3rd Degree Black Belt, and Chenson, 4th Degree Black Belt, run the WT sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both are students studying engineering in their third and second years respectively. Nathan started taekwondo at 4 years old under 7th Dan Master James Eldon and is now a regular instructor at his home club. He specialises in WT sparring and will run the Tuesday sessions. Chenson has 12 years experience and has competed to a national level at WT poomsae competitions. He will be running the technical classes on the Wednesday and is qualified to examine WT gradings.
Our club attends a variety of official competitions throughout the year. We have a dedicated Squad session on a Saturday for all those looking to compete at a high level. You can compete in patterns, sparring, breaking and special technique. We attend ITF and WT competitions. Notable competitions include BUCS, BUTL, ITF Championships and PUMA British. We also hold interclub competitions.
We offer internal gradings in both ITF and WT styles every term. So come along and work your way up from white belt to black belt.
We also offer several seminars throughout the year with some very special guests. There are opportunies to further your knowledge in self-defense, Bo Staffs and cool kicks.
Outside of training, our social secs also host several socials and events throughout the year - both sober and non-sober. Some events we've done in the past and plan to do this year are:
- POP! and Skool Dayz
- TEA kwondo
- Games and movie nights
- Club Meals
- Annual international and domestic tours
We are supporting Young Minds this year. Over the course we will run several events to raise money. We do an annual 12 hour Taekwondo session, pub quizzes and kickathon
