Warwick University Climbing Club is an inclusive and active sports club, with our aim being to get as many people as possible to experience the joy of climbing on real rock. Whether you’re a keen climber, a beginner wanting to learn, or just here for the weekly socials, there’s something for everyone! Being one of the largest sports clubs on campus, we aim to run as many outdoor trips as we can get away with, and provide free top-rope, lead and trad lessons to our members. And if that wasn’t enough, joining also gives you access to the world class climbing facilities provided by Warwick Sport: who knows, you might end up climbing next to Shauna Coxsey!
The last 18 months have been hard for everyone, and our club is no different. We have been unable to run outdoor trips or in-person socials for nearly two years now, but we’re optimistic that this year is going to be different! Expect loads of trips, loads of socials, and loads of fun! Keep a specific eye out for Freshers trip in November – we’re already super psyched for it.
We run a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials, so there’s something for everyone! Whether that’s terrible dancing in the Copper Rooms (the SU club) or chilling and watching climbing documentaries, WUCC is an amazing way to meet people at the uni and make lifelong friends. And every few weeks you’ll also be able to escape from the uni and go somewhere far more interesting like the Peak District or Snowdonia!
Safety is in all that we do, and due to COVID 19 our plans may have to change. However, currently we are hoping for a mostly in-person year. Our club hours will definitely be running, if in a slightly limited capacity, so check out the relevant page above for more info. We also hope to offer free tasters to any student in the first few weeks of term 1 and 2.
The exec committee are all very nice people (a very unbiased take) and would love to answer any questions you have. If you’re a new student be sure to check out our freshers page on our website!
Big love and send hard,
Ryan Farnes and Helen Norman
