What We Do
Warwick Trading Society provides students with opportunities to develop their understanding of financial markets through education, practical experience, competitions and engagement with industry.
Our Macro, Quant and Women in Trading divisions run regular sessions across areas including global markets, discretionary trading, quantitative finance and machine learning. We also organise careers and industry events, with previous sessions involving firms such as Glencore, WorldQuant, Futures First and Wintermute, alongside Spring Week panels, CV clinics and collaborations with other Warwick societies.
Members can apply their knowledge through competitions such as Reasoned Trading, EuroPitch, uMushroom and HackEurope. We are also introducing the WTS Fund, where selected students will research investment ideas, present trade theses and gain experience in portfolio construction and risk management.
For 2026/27, the society is supported by sponsors and partners including Jane Street, Quantbot Technologies, GAIN and Reasoned Trading. Alongside our academic and careers programme, we run a range of socials, including poker nights, circles and bar crawls, giving members the chance to build relationships across the society.
WTS Fund
Launching in 2026/27, the WTS Fund will give students the opportunity to gain practical experience of investment research, portfolio management and risk.
The fund will initially focus on Equity and Rates, with a team made up of Portfolio Managers, Analysts and Risk members. Participants will work together to develop investment ideas, assess market opportunities and contribute to portfolio decisions within a structured investment process.
Applications for WTS Fund positions will open during Term 1, with further details on the structure, strategy and recruitment process to be announced.
Events, Careers, Education and Community
Industry & Careers
Throughout the year, WTS hosts events designed to give members direct exposure to trading firms and financial markets careers. Previous events have included a commodity trading and networking session with Glencore, a WorldQuant workshop, a Futures First event and a Wintermute trading assessment day. We also run Spring Week panels, CV clinics and other careers-focused sessions to support members throughout the application process.
Education and Technical Development
Our Macro and Quant teams run regular educational programmes throughout the year, covering financial markets, trading, quantitative finance and machine learning. These include our Macro educational sessions and Quant/ML series, designed to build knowledge progressively across the year.
Socials & Collaborations
WTS is also built around its student community. We run regular socials including circles, bar crawls and poker nights, while collaborating with societies across Warwick including Poker Society, Economics Society, Warwick Business School, Warwick Kickstart and Consulting Society. These events give members the opportunity to meet people across the society outside our academic and careers programme.
Competitions and Industry Partners
WTS members can take part in a range of trading and quantitative competitions throughout the year. Previous opportunities have included the Reasoned Trading student trading competition, EuroPitch, UMushroom and HackEurope, alongside practical workshops and assessment-style events.
For 2026/27, WTS is supported by sponsors and partners including Jane Street, Quantbot Technologies, GAIN and Reasoned Trading. Their support helps us expand our competitions, events and access to industry throughout the year.
