Music Theatre Warwick is a society dedicated to creating and appreciating musical theatre! There are so many ways for MTW members to get stuck into the society, whether it’s through performing on stage in musicals and concerts throughout the year, creating designs for staging and costumes, playing in the band or as a member of a production team – there is something for everyone!
Over the last twenty years, the society has continued to develop, each year making the society bigger and better! With yearly slots in Warwick Arts Centre’s main Theatre and Studio, the Edinburgh Fringe and around the local area, the society is able to produce so many exciting shows. MTW's past shows range from popular West End and Broadway hits, quirky and original off-Broadway shows, and family favourites. We perform musicals with large and small casts, feature new and student writing, and host our own musical improv troupe, and we guarantee that you will find your favourite shows in MTW!
MTW is committed not only to producing professional quality shows, but also to raising money for charitable causes and giving back to the university and Warwickshire community. Starting in 2008, MTW Juniors has offered our members the opportunity to volunteer teaching musical theatre to local primary school children. We also perform annually in the local village of Lapworth at their charity concert. Over the last 16 years that we have been asked to perform we have raised thousands of pounds for Christian Aid in conjunction with the lovely residents of Lapworth.
As well as performing throughout the year, we have socials to keep our members entertained and connected to each other. From mass theatre trips, nights out together, to our annual tour – in recent years travelling to Prague, Barcelona and Budapest! We also have our very own netball and football teams - Anything Throws and Off Side Story - which both compete against other teams in Warwick’s many leagues. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience!
If you can't commit to a show, our drop in sessions are called our Ensemble, which meets weekly for two hours of no pressure singing, dancing, games and catching up! It is completely unauditioned and a brilliant place to meet the MTW exec and other members. We can't promise there won't be a cheeky jazz hand or two...
At the heart of the society, Music Theatre Warwick is for people who love musicals. Anyone who loves musical theatre is more than welcome to join us! If the only show you've been in is the one you perform in your bedroom, we offer you a place to talk about your passions with like minded people and try as many new things as you want to! There is no experience necessary, and there are just as many fun and silly shows as there are big ones. Just as importantly, if you've been on stage since you were a toddler, we've got so many opportunities for you to perform at a professional standard, but we also help to create Warwick's best directors, producers, choreographers and designers.
We can't wait to welcome you into the MTW family!
MTW Executive
