Welcome to Warwick DofE Society!
The DofE Society is for anyone with an interest in walking, the outdoors, volunteering, being active, or the DofE Award. If you want to complete your Gold DofE at Uni, or to learn more about what this involves, we can definitely help you on this journey! Or if you've already finished your DofE or just want to be a casual member (without signing up to the DofE Award), we also have lots opportunities to get involved, to go on new adventures and share skills with a fantastic community.
Here is our intro video with highlights about our society:
We hope that gives you a flavour of what we have to offer, so please read on for more details!
So far in 2020, we've had five participants complete their award, and we'd love to see that number grow! We enable you to finish off your DofE Awards you have already started, or you can start with us from new - we focus on delivering the Gold Award, and offer training sessions for the Expedition, and manage your online progress through eDofE. Whether you need help signing up and finding opportunities, or just want to fly free and complete the sections, we'll be here to guide you. We offer a Mentor Scheme to provide you with ongoing eDofE advice, and as a society we offer invaluable training necessary for walking expeditions (and will endeavour to continue running our own expeditions*!). We really do strive to make your Gold DofE experience the best experience you could ask for!
Finished your Gold Award but not ready to hang up your walking boots just yet? Never fear! Whether they're getting involved as mentors to our participants or joining us for a weekend of hiking in the hills of Wales, our Post Gold community really is an important part of our society!
The highlight of any academic year, our annual trips to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons are constantly evolving! With routes of varying difficulties, anyone is more than welcome - from participants looking for some first-hand experiences to Post Golds looking for their next adventure, and even those avid hikers who know the maps like the back of their hand!
At the heart of our society are our socials! Run every fortnight, we love to get together, have a chat, and bond over our DofE experiences! (Or, if we're feeling particularly adventurous, take a night hike out into the countryside surrounding the university, and maybe catch a firework display or two!) Socials really are the perfect way to get to know the people you'll be completing the award with, to bond with our other members and to become part of our community.
We'd love for you to join us!
**Many of the trips, socials and other activities mentioned above will be subject to covid-19 restrictions and may not be able to go ahead as usual. However, we're working as hard as we can to give you the best DofE experience possible within those restrictions! Help with the award will still be just as thorough, and we hope to run regular online events and maybe some socially distanced outdoor activities, depending on the guidance.**
