Warwick Classics Society is a fun, inclusive and safe society that you should consider joining during your time at University! Whether you do Classics or not, you're more than welcome to come and join us, as long as you're willing to have fun! We offer a diverse range of social events, to cater to anyones tastes! Whether you're a drinker or not, there'll be an event for you!
WHAT CAN WE OFFER YOU?
Socials
We offer a wide range of social events, aiming to hold atleast one event a week during term time. Our main events include, barcrawls in Leamington, pub quizzes, charity events, our annual ball, and of course circles before POP! several times a term, with unique themes to get you thinking!
The Play
Every year, the Society puts on a production of an Ancient play, adapated for the modern day. The play is highly funded, being the largest budget production on campus, funded by the Classics department. The play is entirely student run led by the Director and Producer, who are elected each year.
Not really interested in acting, but still want to get involved? Thats fine! There are plenty of opportunities for getting involved behind the scenes, so if you're interested there'll be something you can do! The Play is a fantastic way to get involved with the society, and is always a highlight of the year!
Mentoring Scheme
If you're joining the department for your first year, you'll be automatically assigned a mentor from either second or third year. We run the mentoring scheme with the department, to ensure your first year at university is as smooth as it can be! Mentors are there for if you have any questions about your course, or anything to do with university life in general. No question is too silly, we were all freshers once!
Sports & Charities
Classics may not seem like the most sporty society in the university, but we dont shy away from sports! Each term we run a 5 a side football team, and every week play other societies on campus, we're always looking for new players! We also occasionally run paintballing events in Coventry, which are always a highlight! Each term we pick a charity we are going to support that term, recent charities including Crasac, and Mind. We run several events throughout the term, such as charity Circles, Pub Quizzes and Barcrawls to raise money for our chosen charity.
Classics Ball
Every Feburary the Society puts on an annual ball, the venue this year (2022) being Chessford Grange. The Society Ball is where we take a night to look back at all we've accomplished throughout the year, and be able to put on your formalwear for a night of sophistication!
Lectures
We have recently started a speaker series where we invite members of the Classics Community to give lectures on on of their chosen topics. These lectures are always interesting as the lecturer is giving a lecture on something they themselves are very passionate about.
Thinking of joining us?
The Classics Society is a fun and friendly environment where anyone regardlesss of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation is more than welcome. There is no obligation to study Classics either! If you like what you hear, then we look forward to meetting you!
