Welcome to BASE Law Society

BASE Law Society is a community dedicated to supporting state-educated and/or ethnic minority students interested in pursuing a career in law. We aim to make the legal profession more accessible by creating a supportive environment where students can develop their skills, build their confidence and connect with others who share their ambitions.

We recognise that students from state-educated and ethnic minority backgrounds can face unique challenges when navigating university and entering the legal profession. Through our events, opportunities and community, we seek to address these barriers and provide our members with the guidance, networks and experiences needed to thrive.

What we do:

  • Careers & Networking – We organise speaker events, career panels and networking opportunities with law firms, barristers and legal professionals, giving members the chance to learn about different career paths and build valuable connections.
  • Skills, Applications & Conferences – We provide opportunities to develop key skills for a career in law, including commercial awareness, applications, interviews and assessment-centre preparation. We also host flagship conferences bringing together inspiring speakers and leading professionals from across the legal industry, giving our members the opportunity to gain valuable insights, ask questions and build meaningful connections.
  • Industry Insights – Our events explore different areas of the legal profession and offer members the opportunity to hear directly from professionals about their experiences of entering and progressing within the industry.
  • Collaborations – We work with other societies, university departments and external organisations to create wider opportunities for our members and promote greater diversity within the legal profession.
  • Community & Support – At the heart of BASE Law is our community. We want our members to have a space where they can meet like-minded students, share experiences, support one another and feel confident pursuing their ambitions.

We believe that your background should never determine how far you can go. BASE Law is committed to helping students access the opportunities, networks and support they need to succeed in the legal profession.

Whether you are already set on a career in law or simply curious about what the profession has to offer, BASE Law welcomes you. Join our community, get involved in our events and take the next step towards your legal career.
