WarwickSU offers over 250 diverse societies for students. Joining requires an annual Societies Federation fee and individual society costs. The platform provides resources for joining or starting societies and highlights the "Report + Support Ready" accreditation scheme, which promotes safety and tackles harassment within student communities.

Alternative Protein Project

Fixing Our Food System

Billions of people around the world love meat, and global demand is projected to increase by at least 50% by 2050. Simply expanding conventional production is not a viable path if we want to meet critical global climate, biodiversity, public health, and food security goals.

Alternative proteins—made from plants, cultivated directly from animal cells, or produced via fermentation—offer a scalable solution to satisfy global demand while radically reducing environmental impact, antibiotic resistance, and land use.

Warwick APP is one of 94 chapters across the world supported by the Good Food Institute, a nonprofit think tank building a sustainable, secure, and just food system. We host talks and workshops, and build pathways for students into alt-protein research, industry, policy, and advocacy.

What are Alternative Proteins?

πŸ” Alternative proteins are meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy products produced from plants, animal cells, or using fermentation.

πŸ˜‹ They are designed to taste the same as or better than conventional animal products while costing the same or less, giving people the foods they love without the need for industrial animal agriculture.

Why do we need Alternative Proteins?

Alternative proteins offer a more efficient, sustainable, and secure way to meet growing global demand for meat.

  • 🌍 Sustainability: Modernise production to drastically cut food system emissions and free up ecosystems for biodiversity restoration.

  • πŸ’Š Public Health: Reduce reliance on heavy antibiotic use in farming, lowering the threat of antibiotic resistance and pandemic risks.

  • 🌱 Resource Efficiency: Feed more people using significantly less land, energy, and water.
