The past week has been another busy one for the Full-Time Officer Team, as we’ve continued to share your thoughts and concerns with the University around some key issues, including a safety net policy, rent and access to study spaces. Whilst we’re still awaiting a breakthrough on several of these issues, there have certainly been some successes over the week, and we’ve set out a few of these below.

As ever, if you have any thoughts or concerns that you’d like us to address or raise with the University, please be sure to give any member of the team a shout, either by email (our email addresses are at the bottom of this post) or a Facebook message!

What we’ve been working on:

  • Continuing to pressure the university to implement a no detriment policy along the lines of suggestions seen in the Liberation Societies’ petition.
  • Working with other SUs around the country to lobby the Government to support students through tuition fee reductions and rent refunds.
  • Reviewing the Club Culture Survey to shape training for club exec members.
  • Allocating Club Hardship fund money to clubs who have faced unexpected financial pressures.
  • Started a review of the BUCS trans athlete policy with Stonewall and BUCS.
  • Working with the University on a fair way to implement mitigating circumstances for online exams across departments.
  • Lobbying the University to open more study space following the closure of the library last week.
  • Making progress on and releasing our action plan for tackling sexual misconduct at Warwick.
  • Contributing to the review of the Residential Life Team model, and sharing students’ concerns with the University surrounding this.
  • Planning for Spring Elections, as well as club and society exec elections.
  • Planning events and a buddy scheme to help tackle loneliness on- and off-campus.
  • Continuing to push for the re-introduction of an IT Support Fund.
  • Putting the finishing touches on plans for the launch of Associations.
  • Representing students at many University committees to ensure students are properly supported through these challenging and uncertain times.

Officer wins!

  • Hosted a Reshaping Sport event with Paralympian Sam Ruddock.
  • Gym refunds for final years not returning to campus and 50% club pass refunds.
  • Ability to request one-week extensions without evidence in Engineering.
  • A commitment from the University to support students with purchasing IT equipment for online learning.
