Come see Casablanca presented on 35mm film on the big screen in L3!
It’s a classic for a reason! Casablanca is the story of Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a cynical American bar owner living in the city of Casablanca in the midst of the Second World War. The city has become a vital destination for those looking to flee Nazi rule and reach America, but the process of getting a visa is long and difficult, and many are forced to remain in Casablanca for a long time. Rick lives by one principle – he doesn’t stick his neck out for anybody. But when Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), an ex-lover, appears in his bar one evening accompanied by a well-known leader of the resistance against the Nazis, both seeking passage out of Casablanca, this principle is challenged.
Casablanca regularly appears on lists of the greatest films ever made, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s part political thriller, part war drama, and part love story, with some of the most memorable scenes and lines ever put to film, and still captivates audiences 80+ years later. So, even if you’ve seen it before, don’t miss the chance to see it on the big screen, and if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? [Cerys Bardsley]
