Peak District Freshers Day Trip

Event from Mountaineering and Hiking

Saturday 10 October 2020, 8.00AM - Saturday 10 October 2020, 8.00PM

Peak District National Park

Here's the information for the trip:

When Is It?

Saturday 10th October, the end of Week 1.

Due to the use of personal cars for this trip, there is an element of flexibility for individual cars in the pick up and drop off times for this trip. However, I’d expect everyone will be leaving campus at 8am on the 10th of October. Cars will then leave the Peak District at around 6pm to allow us to return to campus at around 8pm.

Where are we going?

The Peak District. This will give us access to some of the best hills we can get to on a day trip from campus, such as Mam Tor and Kinder Scout. The Peak District is only about 2 hours away from campus by car, so there will be plenty of time to explore the area and the hills on offer.

How much is it?

£15 for members, £21 for non-members. Tickets will be purchased after sign-up via the SU website. As there is a £6 difference between the member and non-member price for this trip, it would make sense for people who are already members of another sports club to become members of our club, which will then allow you to buy the member ticket. Please do not buy a ticket unless I have told you to.

What do I need?

You don't need any previous experience to come on the trip, but you do need the correct equipment. A list of essential equipment as always can be found on our website hereAs an absolute minimum, you must have a daysack (to carry your belongings and water while you walk), a full set of waterproofs, and walking shoes/boots. We usually require boots with ankle support for trips later in the year, but we understand that they're a big purchase if you don't have them, so for this trip you are welcome to come with appropriate walking shoes (e.g. trainers) instead. In addition, it is definitely beginning to get colder, so I would recommend bringing additional warm layers and accessories such as warm gloves, hats, and scarves/buffs. Please also remember to bring a face covering to wear in the personal vehicles unless you are medically exempt.

The club has a limited supply of waterproofs which may be borrowed. If you need to borrow any kit or want any equipment advice, please get in touch with our gear master Ella as soon as possible at E.Jeffery@Warwick.ac.uk.

You will also need to bring your own lunch for this trip, along with some snacks. There will not be an option to stop and buy food during the day.

If you have any questions about the trip don't hesitate to contact me at Jacob.Oyarzabal@warwick.ac.uk

Looking forward to seeing you all out on the hills,

Jacob
