International Students' Officer NON-EU
Hi, I'm Zishi, a Second Year Philosophy student at our university, and I'm here to represent you!
Earlier this year, there have been reports that international students, especially those from the Chinese community, have been victims of targeted hate crimes in the Canley area. This is totally unacceptable and this was one of the reasons why I wished to stand in the election in the first place. I will work in partnerships with the Members of Parliament (MPs), local councils and our university to do everything I can to introduce measures preventing any further incidents from happening.
Coming to the U.K. eight years ago from China, I fully understand the pressure which can be faced by every international student and that is why I will work to improve specialised mental health services for those of us with international background - a project I have been doing since last year as the Mental Health Awareness Campaign Representative on the SU Welfare Committee last year.
Warwick is such a fantastic place with people from all different background. In my campaign manifesto, I pledged to lobby for better food and more frequent shuttle bus services - I wish by doing so the diversity of our students can be celebrated.
In the ever-globalising world, we must keep it up to do our bit. That is exactly why I will promote a more diverse learning experience and to take care of our environment - I have been doing this since First Year as your Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) Representative for last year.
Since being elected to my role, I have been trying to talk to as many international students as I possibly can and I have received some excellent suggestions, some of them I could not possibly have thought on my own. This includes lowering the parking charge on campus, fixing the vending machines in the library and to provide better scrutiny on quality of teaching. I very much appreciate those suggestions and I really do want to hear more about what YOU need to make YOUR experience here at Warwick even more memorable.
If you think that I may be able to help you, your SSLC, Society or Sports Club in ANY possible way, you can email me via firstname.lastname@example.org or find me on Facebook: Zishi Zhang at any time.
