Our role and what we hope to achieve from the role:
After the occupation of the SU last academic year, we wanted to ensure that the most marginalised communities were represented and safe on campus. By holding fortnightly drop-in sessions, we hope that all ethnic minorities’ voices are heard within the SU.
We notice that the SU exists quite far away for a lot of ethnic minorities and we want to do our part to bridge the gap between ethnic minority university students and the union that represents them. We hope to do this by collaborating with cultural and liberation societies and holding events; such as talks on gendered Islamophobia, the racialised implications of the climate crisis and Black liberation - hence the creation of the Black Liberation Project. Alongside this, we hope to apply pressure on the university via campaigns such as #RenameRadcliffe to ensure that the university campus is as safe as possible for ethnic minorities.
