Commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day to stand up to Racism

Motion for SU to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day every year and for the SU and the VP Welfare and Campaigns  to launch a series of events regarding Holocaust Memorial Day to educate members of the Campus community about the dangers of Racism and extremism.  

This union notes: 

  1. That racism is once again becoming a prominent issue in society (over 35% of ethnic minority groups in the UK have experienced a racist assault in the past year) (1) 

  1. The Racially motivated hate crimes are the highest reported type of hate crime in the UK (an increase of 19% from 2021-22) (2) 

 

This union believes: 

  1. Racism has no place on campus or in society. 

  1. Warwick campus must be a safe space for all ethnic and religious minorities. 

  1. The rising trend of hatred and prejudice must be halted. 

  

This Union resolves: 

  1. The Students Union commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day every year.
