This motion mandates the SU to deliver trans inclusion training to SU staff.

Trans inclusion in our Union: Addressing the harm we've done

Union Notes

  1.  The Equality Act 2010 states that a service provider must not discriminate against a person on the grounds of gender reassignment, unless as ‘a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim’.
  2. By-Law 10, point 11.1.2 f) states “[The SU aims] To challenge behaviour and change practice that directly or indirectly results in discrimination”.

Union Believes

  1. All Union buildings should have both gendered and gender-neutral toilet facilities (in addition to accessible toilet facilities).
  2. The Union should do more to improve trans inclusion within the Union and University.

Union Resolves

  1. That all staff who work for the Union must receive trans inclusion training, tailored to their area of work, before commencing any student-facing work for the Union. This training must be co-created with trans officers, staff and students at the University
