Hi everyone,
First of all, to those of you observing Ramadan and getting close to Eid, I hope the last stretch of fasting is going gently on you. For many of our Muslim students, especially those away from family, Eid can feel a little quiet, so I am planning to host a small Eid celebration on campus this year to bring people together.
Not just for those celebrating, but also for students from different cultures and faiths to come along, learn a bit, eat some food and share the moment. If you have ideas or would like to help shape it, please do reach out to me. You can find my details on the SU website once you click on my picture.
Now to a big one this week. The results of the Spring Officer Elections are out. Your new Full-Time Officer team will start their roles in August 2026. I know many of you will already be very keen to start seeing emails every Monday from your new President Elect Ollie Chapman, but you will have to bear with me for a little longer until then.
A massive congratulations to every single candidate who ran this year. For me, elections are never just about winning. It is about putting yourself out there, being brave enough to stand in front of thousands of students, campaigning, having conversations across campus and then accepting the choice of the student body. That takes courage.
I must say you were all great. And to those who did not win but still congratulated their peers and carried themselves with grace despite all the effort you put in, I am genuinely proud of you. You should be proud of yourselves too.
The experience of canvassing, speaking to strangers, defending your ideas and standing for something will stay with you for a long time and will help you in ways you may not even realise yet.
Looking ahead, a couple of things still happening before everyone disappears for Spring Vacation.
Liberation Conference is this weekend. It is a great space for discussion, learning and community building across different liberation groups, and it is completely free for Warwick students.
Nominations open for the Union Awards at 12pm today, including Student Voice & Impact and Societies categories. If you know someone who has made a difference this year, whether through representation, activism or building community, this is the moment to recognise them.
And finally, as this is the last AME before a little break, I hope you all have a lovely Spring Vacation when it comes. Rest a bit, catch up with friends, travel if you can, or simply take a breather.
Speak soon.
