The (Free) Breakfast Club is evolving!

Warwick SU's brand-new 'Food for Thought' campaign is a dynamic, ambitious initiative that introduces new provisions to support students' wellbeing and academic success through improved access to healthy food. The scheme will deliver free food three mornings a week, with a renewed emphasis on nutritious, energising options that promote student wellbeing and academic focus. It will be delivered from The Green Room in Warwick SU HQ.

The campaign has been conceived, designed, and planned by Ollie Chapman, Vice President for Welfare and Campaigns, with significant contributions from various members of the SU staff team, namely Celine Al-Saleh, Inca Hide-Wright, Gill Goodwin, Lee Solloway, Tracy Murphy, and Louise Marjoram. The scheme is funded by the Warwick Innovation Fund.

This scheme differs from the former 'Free Breakfast Club'. The less healthy options will no longer be available, and we aim to maintain a renewed focus on reaching students who are most in need of accessing this new initiative.

From Week 1, Term 2, our morning sessions will be available to students in need on Tuesdays from 8:30am–9:30am, Wednesdays from 11:00am–12:00pm, and Thursdays from 8:30am–9:30am, in the SUHQ Green Room. A range of healthy options, including wholemeal bread, oats, wheat cereals, fruit, and pure fruit juices, will be available.

This initiative is a practical response to the degree-awarding gap that is emerging for students from low socio-economic backgrounds. 'Food for Thought' aims to provide good food for students who need it most. This campaign is much needed and long overdue; we must be innovative when meeting the needs of students hit hardest by the cost-of-living crisis.

More is to come with 'Food for Thought', as the intention is for the campaign to be multi-faceted. In the near future, students can also expect a new mobile 'Grab and Go' initiative as well as a 'Free Food on Campus' calendar, so keep your eyes peeled for further announcements!
