Officer Updates - Support for Students impacted by the AV1 fire

Your Officers are keeping you in the loop! Ollie (VP Welfare & Campaigns) shares how the SU has supported the affected students of the AV1 fire, and how we will continue to offer support.

The SU was incredibly saddened and concerned to hear about the fire in AV1 on the night of Wednesday the 19th of November.

Ollie Chapman, VP Welfare and Campaigns, and Alijah Taha, President, were part of the major incident team following the fire and on the Thursday evening went to visit affected students and offer support. They ensured that the perspective of these students was communicated to University leaders and worked to ensure a thorough and compassionate response, alongside University colleagues' hard work.

The SU Advice Centre will be hosting drop in sessions on the 3rd of December, from 12PM - 4PM. Our advisors will be there to help with inquiries about insurance claims, and representatives from Wellbeing and the Residential Community Team will be there to further explain how they can support.

We are also hoping to host a meal soon for all affected students in one of our outlets, with free meals and hopefully a lovely community feeling. Students have also been able to use their food vouchers in our outlets.

We would also again like to thank the Christian Union and Islamic Society for the support they offered to students during and after the fire. We are incredibly proud that members of our societies acted in such a kind and community focused manner.

All of us at Warwick SU extend our solidarity and thoughts to any students affected by the fire and below we will signpost to where you can find support on campus, whether in relation to the fire or otherwise:
