Your Officers are keeping you in the loop! James (VP Democracy & Development) shares an update about how we’re continuing to be transparent and accountable to you.
Regional Influence
On Friday, James (VP Democracy & Development) and Alijah (President) braved Storm Claudia to visit the University of Birmingham Guild of Students to meet with their Sabbatical Officer team. We’re grateful to their President, Antonia, for the tour of their (very impressive) building!
We exchanged best practice on a number of issues, including student democracy, societies and student groups and our commercial outlets. Additionally, it was great to build regional links and promote collaboration on our campaigns. We look forward to working with the Guild on tackling gender-based violence, sorting the buses, and more.
Red Tape
As part of our commitment as a team to make it easier for students to get involved, we’ve been working on making our governing documents up-to-date and easier to understand. Louis (VP Sports) and Adam (VP Societies) have done lots of work on creating new documents regarding Society and Club elections and a Vote of No Confidence process. These should be live on the website soon and represent a big update from the old Regulation 9, with simpler language, a better format, and clearer rules.
Additionally, James has been working on a new version of Bye-law 7 (Elections), to make it more concise. The current version is 25% smaller, with it now representingthe comprehensive view of our Election Rules, rather than being split into two documents. This will go to Steering Group on Friday, then Student Council next Tuesday, before being approved at the Board of Trustees.
SUQs and SU & You
We’re continuing to be transparent and accountable to you! Last week we were in Gibbet Hill, doing our regular drop-in sessions to support students and keep you updated on what we're doing for you. We teamed up with the Advice Centre too, to advertise our Housing Day (this Wednesday!) and to let students know their rights regarding housing.
Additionally, Alijah, Adam and Maanya (VP Postgraduate) were on RAW on Friday for SUQs, so thank you to everyone who submitted a question/tuned in. If you’d like to listen this Friday, you can do so here, and if you'd like to submit a question, text RAW on +44 7356 229333.
Have a great week!
