Everyone at Warwick Students’ Union has been deeply saddened to learn of the death of Alan Phillips, who was the first-ever Sabbatical President here in 1968-69.

Alan came to Warwick in 1966 to study Physics, graduating with First-Class Honours in 1970. As an alumnus, he went on to have a long association with Warwick, becoming the first President of the Graduates Association, a member of University Council, and a member of an academic advisory board on ethnic relations. Alan was awarded an honorary degree by Warwick in 2005, and went on to become general secretary of World University Service UK.

Our thoughts are with Alan’s family and friends at this sad time.

You can read more about Alan and his work on the University website or in this obituary in the Guardian.
