Warwick Students' Union are aware of and alarmed about an incident that took place in Heronbank and Lakeside, which targeted our Chinese students.

As a Students’ Union, we pride ourselves on actively being an inclusive organisation, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms the ways in which Chinese students have been racially targeted.

Chinese students are part of a wider, culturally diverse community at the University of Warwick. As a Students’ Union, we actively work with the University to ensure all students of all backgrounds are treated with respect and dignity. However, we are concerned to hear reports that a number of posters have been put up in Heronbank and Lakeside that racially targeted our Chinese students. At a time when we have witnessed a rise in hostilities towards marginalised communities on a national scale, we would like to take this opportunity to express unconditional support to Chinese students and anyone that has been impacted by the incidents that took place at the end of February. We will not tolerate any forms of racism on campus, and we will continue to work closely with students and the University to tackle this issue.

We wish to affirm that anyone who has experienced a racist incident or has been impacted by what occurred can confidentially seek support from our Students’ Union Advice Centre or submit a complaint to Report and Support. We will continue to tackle racism on campus and fight for an inclusive culture that is free from racist abuse.
