Niall for Socs
My name is Niall Johnson and I am running to be your next Societies Officer. Throughout my time at Warwick I have been completely immersed within a varied range of societies as well as the SU. Along the way I believe I have gained a comprehensive understanding of how I can best support societies as a Sabb.
My key election pledges are:
- SocsFed made simple
- Reboot Halls Societies
- Conference Funding and Guidance
- Easier booking system for meeting rooms and performance spaces
- The week 0 extravaganza
SocsFed made simple
I will make SocsFed more transparent so freshers and society members know where their money is going and how it is helping their societies. I will make an infographic to make it easy and clear to understand how SocsFed works. I will work on a way to create a multi-year plan for SocsFed membership to try and cut costs for you. I believe that this will lead to an upsurge in finalist and post-grad society membership helping to make societies more diverse and accessible.
Reboot Halls Societies
I believe there is huge potential for renewed societies within halls accommodation to fulfil a large range of functions – SOCIAL, SPORTING and POLITICAL.
Social - The chance to meet and interact with more people, through activities and socials.
Sporting - Make sports teams for intramural and casual leagues
Political - Another opportunity for students to gain representation and campaign over how halls are run.
Conference Funding and Guidance
I will make it easier for any society to put on their first conference. This is an amazing opportunity for any society, regardless of size to receive support from the SU and Socs exec. I will stress the importance of maintaining an openness and diversity in the conferences coming to Warwick. I want to help society’s visions become a reality.
Meeting Rooms and Performance Spaces
I want to create a separate room booking system for societies to organise their rehearsals, meetings and performances. The current system is too convoluted and does not operate in favour of societies. Through this reform, every society will be able to book out the space they need to succeed in their work.
The Week 0 Extravaganza
I have some bold, exciting and new plans to ensure Week 0 is the sensational event it deserves to be! These include:
-The introduction of a ‘Societies Brochure’ which will be a compilation of all the wonderful societies here on campus
-Increased connections with nightclubs and activity venues in Leamington and Coventry to make it easier for societies to have off-campus socials
-Halls Returner Reps, to help facilitate nights out off campus, and freshers get involved in societies early
-A timetable of all societies’ events in Week 0 and Freshers Fortnight as an easy way for freshers to get involved
