Wednesday 23rd January
Henri Matisse Canvases with CraftSoc
H0.60 (Humanities), 3-4:30pm
Decorate canvases in the style of famous disabled artist Henri Matisse alongside members of Craft Society. The event is free for members of the society but it is suggested that those who aren’t members donate £1 towards the cost of the materials used. Please sign up via this Google form.
Ableist Language Campaign Launch
Outside Library, 5pm
Meet outside the library to help put up posters or spread information on social media about a new campaign devised to encourage people to consider whether the words they are using could be discriminatory towards disabled people.
Thursday 24th January
Disability Football Session with Warwick Sport
4G Football Pitch (by Cryfield Sports Pavilion), 4-5:30pm
The first of the weekly pan disability football sessions run by Warwick Sport with experienced disability football coaches. Suitable for all needs and abilities. For more information email email@example.com.
Xananas Meal with Warwick Enable
Xananas Restaurant (SUHQ), 6pm
Social with Warwick Enable at the SU’s very own restaurant. Carers, friends and allies welcome. Please contact Warwick Enable via Facebook if you have any specific access requests.
Week 4 Events
Tuesday 29th January
Disability and SU Elections Information Session
MR2 (SUHQ), 10-11am
Delivered by Disabled Students’ Officer (DSO), Melissa Martin, alongside a member of the SU democracy team, this session will cover information about the role of Disabled Students' Officer, adjustments the SU can make to ensure elections are accessible to everyone, and coping with elections week with a disability or chronic illness.
Wednesday 30th January
Accessible Circle and Pop! with Warwick Enable
Dirty Duck, 8pm
A quiet circle and Pop! social with Warwick Enable. There will be no pressure to drink alcohol or to go to Pop! after the circle and you can go home as early as you wish. Please contact Warwick Enable via Facebook if you have any specific access requests.
Thursday 31st January
Disability & Language Training Session
MR2 (SUHQ), 4-5pm
A training session on how to use language surrounding disability sensitively – for example, explaining how to avoid common ableist phrases in everyday language. This will primarily be aimed at the execs of societies and sports clubs but anyone is welcome.
Friday 1st February
Disability Community Meeting
MR2 (SUHQ), 5-6pm
The disability community meeting for term 2 run by the Disabled Students’ Officer, Melissa Martin. Come along to discuss any problems you’re having with disability at university, whether these are related to accommodation, your course, societies or anything else on your mind. Anyone who self-identifies as disabled is welcome and all information shared is confidential.
