Fund Your Idea

Plant Based Universities (PBU)
As well as our large range of Societies that support sustainability, the PBU campaign group is a student-led sustainability initiative campaigning for plant-based catering across campus. In 2024, they passed a motion through the SU, and now work directly with catering teams and departments to make plant-based the norm. They run regular meetings, socials, and practical workshops - open to anyone who wants to get involved. Get involved here.
10 Simple Ways to Live Sustainably
1. Be More Energy Efficient
Improve your home’s energy efficiency by insulating it, sealing draughts, and using LED lightbulbs. Lowering your thermostat to 19°C and investing in energy-efficient appliances can significantly reduce energy use and bills.
2. Eat More Plant-Based Foods
Reduce your dietary carbon footprint by incorporating plant-based foods, replacing meat and dairy with sustainable options, and focusing on seasonal, local produce.
3. Travel Sustainably
Opt for walking, cycling, or public transport over driving. Transition to an electric vehicle and reduce flying, especially on long-haul trips.
4. Buy Better
Choose durable, reusable products over disposables. Repair items where possible, and look for refillable or packaging-free alternatives.
5. Recycle, Resell, Donate
Minimise waste by selling, donating, or recycling items instead of throwing them away. Proper waste management prevents environmental damage.
6. Use What You Already Own
Extend the life of your belongings by repairing or repurposing them. Buy second-hand and borrow instead of purchasing items infrequently used.
7. Invest Wisely
Ensure your money supports sustainable industries. Research where your savings and pensions are invested to avoid funding fossil fuels.
8. Grow a Greener Garden
Create a garden that supports biodiversity and absorbs carbon dioxide. Sustainable gardening benefits both the environment and your wellbeing.
9. Save Water
Conserve water by reducing hot water use and installing water-saving devices in your home. Small changes can make a big difference.
10. Be a Savvy Sustainable Shopper
Hold businesses accountable and avoid greenwashing by researching their sustainability claims. Support brands committed to environmental responsibility.
