In Olivia Wilde’s The Invite, we helplessly watch a dinner party descend into a tense and hilarious exploration of marriage, sexuality, and personality. Angela (Olivia Wilde) hosts the party for her neighbours Pína and Hawk with intense, cringe-inducing conviction while her husband Joe (Seth Rogen) is forced to endure the night Angela has single-handedly organised. Rogen is the hopelessly reluctant and shockingly blunt grounding force of the film, while Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton play addictively unpredictable neighbours with a mischief that will have you grinning in awkward anticipation. As the evening progresses, relationships are tested and boundaries are truly broken.
