Science Concourse, Floor B2

Location: Science Concourse, Library Road, Coventry, CV4 7AL

The Warwick Rapidplay is an official ECF and FIDE rated chess tournament located on Warwick University campus taking place on the 5th of February. It is open to all - students and members of the public alike. The time control is 15 minutes each with a 10 second bonus added to your clock every time you make a move. FIDE Rules of Chess apply.

Entry (Entries List: Here)

The entry fee is £10 for regular entrants and £9.50 for Warwick Chess Society members. Entries close at 23:59 PM on the 4th of February.

We have 3 sections: Minor (U1500), Major (U1800) and the Open.

You must be an English Chess Federation member SILVER or above to enter, otherwise you'll have to pay a £10 surcharge BEFORE you may play. This can be obtained on the ECF website: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/

You can find your membership status and FIDE ID number here: https://www.ecfrating.org.uk/v2/new/list_players.php

If you do not have a FIDE ID, submit the form without it. Your ID will be created when the tournament results are submitted to FIDE. Be aware that in this case you will be registered as English on your FIDE profile. This will likely require a fee if you wish to change it in future.

To enter, please purchase a 'ticket' (entry fee) through this page and complete the entry form which you will see after clicking 'Buy'. Instructions on how to do this for non-students can be found at the bottom of this page. If you have any technical issues with the ticketing system please email us at warwickunichess@gmail.com. Unfortunately we are unable to accept entries on the day, and are limited to 90 entries in line with University capacity guidelines. If you have purchased a ticket, AND can not find your name on the entries list within 24 hours, please let us know, by email.

With a good number of entries the prize money should be the following:

There will be an additional grading prize of £30 in each section (eligibility will be decided on the day). These figures may be modified if entries are too low. There will be no tiebreak system. Prize money from ties will be split equally. If a player wins multiple prizes, the grading prize may be given to the next highest scoring eligible player instead if it is less than the other prize.

Rules

The usual rules of chess apply. Please keep all electronic devices switched off and either in a big or on the table in front of you. In the event that a device makes a noise or is discovered upon a person during a round, the player will be forfeited their game. In all disputes, the arbiter's decision is final. All players grades for the tournament will be determined by the first grade in the following list that the player has:

ECF rapdiplay grade, FIDE rapidplay grade, ECF standardplay grade, FIDE standardplay grade.

If a player has none of the above they must provide a rough estimation of strength. The organiser and arbiters reserve the right to move players between sections as they see fit. The chief arbiter may expel any player who shows dissent by word or action to any other player, arbiter or person on the campus.

The organisers accept no responsibility for any loss, theft or accident during the tournament.

We recommend that you wear a mask whilst in the playing area and do not spectate. Please take a lateral flow test before coming to ensure the safety of the arbiting team and other players. There will be no requirement to shake hands with your opponent before or after a game. We will open doors and windows for ventilation.

Tournament Director: Jack Nolan

Arbiters: Hok Yin Stephen Chiu, FIDE Arbiter, Ravi Sandhu, FIDE Arbiter, Jorel Ali National Arbiter
