Come see Disclosure Day presented with stunning 4K laser projection on the big screen in L3!

Disclosure Day brings forth Steven Spielberg’s triumphant return to blockbuster filmmaking by revisiting familiar territory – exploring the possibility of the extraterrestrial. Whilst not making much of a buzz upon its initial release in June, I think Disclosure Day firmly places itself as one of the best blockbusters in recent years, mainly thanks to Spielberg’s lively direction and John Williams’ slow, melancholic score. In Disclosure Day, Spielberg introduces us to Margaret (Emily Blunt) and Daniel (Josh O’Connor) who find themselves with strange supernatural abilities and become recruited by the revolutionary Hugo (Colman Domingo) in a quest to disclose information concerning the existence of aliens to the entire world. Whilst Blunt especially deserves all the praise for her performance, I don’t see enough praise being given to Colin Firth for his role as scheming billionaire Noah Scanlon, which I think is one of the most underrated and layered performances of the year. Firth delivers his role with such nuance and integrity as Scanlon struggles to keep his rationalisation that he is protecting humanity by keeping this information secret, to the extent that it makes his later breakdown even more crushing. That’s what I most admire about Disclosure Day, Spielberg is not afraid to slow the pace down at points to allow the audience to think about the subtext underlying his film, which doesn’t just stop at the possibility of aliens. This film tackles ideas of religion, power, truth, and humanity, all tied together in a neat bow by one of the greatest directors of our time.
