The Whit Marches are a series of contests held on Whit Friday in the villages of Saddleworth and Tameside for Brass Bands throughout the country. Most villages have a prize for the best performance of each section and the contest has been held annually since 1884. The Brass Society has attended almost every Whit Friday since its creation in 1992 and aims to perform well again this year following our success at ConsTest.
Whit Friday is held on 29th May this year and starts at approximately 4pm depending on the village. We aim to leave campus at approximately 12:30pm to arrive in time as the journey takes approximately 3 hours and we have been caught in traffic in previous years.
Once we arrive in the area we will move from village to village, playing in as many as we can fit in. The aim is to play in 6 villages although last year we only managed 5. We aim to leave the last village at midnight to arrive back to campus around 3am.
The provisional route is Greenfields, Friezland, Lydgate, Lees, Scouthead, Delph. We aim to spend around 45 mins at each village and will skip ones that have too large a queue.
We will travel by coach.
