The 2017/18 "Being LGBTQUA+ at Warwick" research project analyzed the experiences of LGBTQUA+ students. It highlighted significant rates of LGBTQUAphobia, especially among trans students, and noted that the Students' Union was generally perceived as more supportive than the University. The resulting report provides recommendations for ongoing improvements.

Being LGBTQUA+ at Warwick

In 2017/18 we undertook the community-led "Being LGBTQUA+ at Warwick" research project to better understand the experiences and needs of our LGBTQUA+ community at Warwick.

The research found that:

  • 38% of LGBTQUA+ students have experienced LGBTQUAphobia at Warwick
  • 68% of LGBTQUA+ trans students have experienced LGBTQUAphobia at Warwick, compared with 31% of cis LGBTQUA+ students
  • 63% of LGBTQUA+ students feel supported by the University, and 75% by the Students' Union
  • 46% of trans students feel supported by the University, and 64% by the Students' Union
  • 59% of bi+ students feel supported by the University, and 78% by the Students' Union
  • 46% of ace/aro students feel supported by the University, and 77% by the Students' Union

The research also allowed us to better understand the forms of LGBTQUAphobia experienced by the community, as well as what makes them feel (un)supported.
