SU Governance

As an SU-affiliated Sports Club or Society, your group is governed by the rules and regulations of the Students’ Union.

Here are the key documents concerning student activities:

Document Type Purpose
SU Bye-law 5 Bye-law Covers membership, new groups, core exec, constitutions, sanctions
Society and Club Election Rules Supporting Document Rules that must be followed when running elections and execs
VONC Process Supporting Document Sets out the fair process for Votes of No Confidence in Exec Members

If you have any questions or need help interpreting the documents for your group, please get in touch with the VP for Sports or Societies!

The bye-laws can only be changed with approval of Student Council and the Board of Trustees, while the Supporting Documents are owned by the Societies and Sports Forums. To propose a change to the bye-laws, create a motion on Make a Change Policy and Motions. To suggest a change to the supporting documents, add it on the Ideas platform. To discuss operational policy, please contact the Full-Time Officer team.

Group Governance

In accordance with the rules set out above, each society and sports club must have a constitution and hold elections for each exec role.

The process for changing your constitution at a General Meeting is set out in Byelaw 521. We’ve also produced a guide to help you run your elections.
