Warwick SU to Host 'One Hell of a Party'

This motion mandates the Democracy & Development officer to work with the SU commercial team to deliver a one-off event titled "One Hell of a Party".

Warwick SU to host 'One Hell of a Party'

 

This Union Notes: 

 

  1. That Stuart Croft, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick, stated that the students and staff of the University of Warwick would have “One Hell of a Party” following the conclusion of Covid-19 lockdowns.1 

  1. For several months, the UK government has not maintained any public health restrictions on large gatherings in England. 

  1. Furthermore, Warwick Students’ Union has organised and promoted large gatherings such as club nights in the Copper Rooms and other SU venues. 

  1. Thus far the University of Warwick has announced no plans to host “One Hell of a Party” for its students. 

  1. That Warwick SU aims to hold highly anticipated and attended events for its students which will then have the additional benefit of generating income to maintain SU services.

This Union Believes: 

 

  1. Students and staff alike will appreciate Warwick SU organising “One Hell of a Party”. 

  1. A one-off event titled “One Hell of a Party” in the Copper Rooms and other venues would generate great interest and income for Warwick SU. This money could then be reinvested in SU services for students. 

  1. There exists plenty of open dates in the Warwick SU events calendar when such an event could be held. 

 

This Union Resolves: 

 

 

  1. To mandate the Democracy & Development Officer to work with the Warwick SU Commercial Team to plan and host a one-off event titled “One Hell of a Party”. 

  1. This event, if possible, should be held on a Friday or Saturday. 

  1. This event should be organised by the end of the 21/22 academic year at the latest, public health restrictions permitting. 

  1. For the Democracy & Development Officer and Warwick SU Commercial Team to use their discretion on which SU or university venues should be utilised during this event (for example Terrace Bar).  

  1. For the Democracy & Development Officer and Warwick SU Commercial Team to use their discretion on whether circling should take place before the event. 

  1. To mandate the Democracy & Development Officer to work with the Terrace Bar to provide a menu of cocktails/mocktails named “Croftails” on the day of the event. The Commercial Team, Democracy & Development Officer and Terrace Bar Staff should use their discretion on the recipes for each cocktail/mocktail, however each cocktail/mocktail should be named after an iconic University of Warwick place or individual. 

  1. To mandate the Democracy & Development Officer to liaise with the University of Warwick on whether they would like to aid in the promotion and administration of the “One Hell of a Party” event. 

  1. To mandate the President to contact the university Vice-Chancellor to invite him to the event as the guest of honour. 

  1. To mandate the Democracy & Development Officer to promote the “One Hell of a Party” event to 2020 and 2021 graduates, if practical. Alumni should also be easily able to purchase tickets to the event.
