Marketplace terms and conditions

These terms and conditions cover the use of the Marketplace area of the Students’ Union website for sale, purchase and trade of items between individuals.

For the avoidance of doubt, by using the Marketplace area of www.sunion.warwick.ac.uk you agree to these terms and conditions. If you do not agree with these terms and conditions you may not use the Marketplace service.

We may amend these terms and conditions at any time by posting the amended version on the website.

1. About the Marketplace

The University of Warwick Students’ Union Marketplace is a forum in which our individual members can buy, sell or trade items to other members of the Students’ Union. It is not a forum for business use and we reserve the right to ban anybody using it as such and remove any business related content without notice.

The University of Warwick Students` Union never owns any items available for sale on the site. We are not involved in the transaction between the buyer and seller. As such we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the products available on the website, purchasers should satisfy themselves in these issues.

The University of Warwick Students` Union is not responsible for any agreements made between individuals to buy or sell goods and no liability can be conferred on us

Users are solely responsible for the legality of their actions when using the Marketplace. The University of Warwick Students` Union does not control or moderate items or their descriptions as they are listed (except in areas when items listed are believed to be in breach of the rules of the Marketplace, the site or the Law when we reserve the right to remove the said items. it is the responsibility of the buyer to make sure they are satisfied that the item they have purchased is as described.

2. User eligibility

The Market Place service may only be used by students of the University of Warwick who are registered with the Students’ Union.

3. Information for Sellers

You must be the owner of the product or item you wish to sell. You are expected to respond to anyone who expresses interest in your item. You are expected to delist your item when you have successfully sold it or it becomes outdated. The item you are selling must be described accurately (e.g. condition, specifications). You are responsible and accountable for the content of your listings and ensuring that you are entitled to use any graphics and logos used within it.

4. Prohibited goods and activities

The following goods must not be sold on the Marketplace:

  • Aeroplane Tickets
  • Train Tickets
  • Cigarettes
  • Alcohol
  • Stolen items
  • Bootleg items
  • Pirate music/videos/software

If you are unsure about any item you wish to sell and need clarification please do not hesitate to contact sunion@sunion.warwick.ac.uk. We reserve the right to remove any items that we deem inappropriate. Please note selling illegal or stolen goods is an offence under UK law and those found responsible are liable to prosecution. Ignorance of an item’s history & legality is no defence under UK law.

6. Complaints

If you have a complaint about a listed item then please contact complaints@sunion.warwick.ac.uk. We regret that we are unable to mediate in disputes between users.

7. Penalties for misuse

University of Warwick Students’ Union reserves the right to block an individual’s access to the Marketplace without warning if an individual fails to or we suspect an individual has failed to comply with the Terms and Conditions above.

The University of Warwick Students` Union reserves the right to take further disciplinary action as outlined by the general disciplinary regulations to which all members of UWSU are obliged to comply.

The University of Warwick Students` Union reserves the right to notify the police, HM Customs & Excise if items being sold on the marketplace are believed to be in breach of UK law.
