The Worst Person in the World is a romantic drama directed by Joachim Trier, known also for being the director behind Sentimental Value, this year's Oscar winner for Best International Film. It positions itself as an intimate representation of identity and love. The film follows Julie, played by Renate Reinsve, as she experiences her twenties, whilst navigating both career and relationships. Reinsve’s performance is captivating in highlighting the struggle of someone afraid to transition towards a fixed and stable life. The directing also blends humour and sadness effectively, structuring the film in chapters that follow Julie’s journey. Visually, it’s simple yet expressive, with moments of beauty and unique storytelling. Overall, the film resonates because it feels relatable and honest, leaving a lasting impression by presenting youth with authenticity. [Harrison Jay]
